Guatemala Travel - Adventure Life traveler, Steve Helman explores Guatemala's Tikal ruins. Hidden within Guatemala's El Peten jungle is Tikal, the largest, and possibly oldest, ruined city of the Maya's Classic Period. The site encompasses at least 3000 buildings, including temples that loom above the forest. It consists of nine groups of courts and plazas built on hills above surrounding swamps, all interconnected by bridges and causeways. Before its decline, Tikal was home to an estimated 100000 Maya.
Ann and I have decided to brave the Guatemalan jungle. Ok, not exactly. We embark on a fairly typical vacation path for tourists. We fly into the Guatemala city airport and then take a shuttle bus directly to Antigua. From there we climb a volcano before heading to Lake Atitlan to visit 5 little towns, reachable only by boat. Enjoy!
Some Pictures to share with my friends - a little must see before traveling to Guatemala.

Travel in Guatemala Facebook tinyurl.com Blog tinyurl.com The Glowpunk team comprising of Frank Cronin, Diarmuid Collins, Colm Hogan and Shane Doyle crossed the border from Mexico to Guatemala in search of adventure. They had been warned that there might be trouble down there, but as expected were received warmly by wonderful guatemalans. Their adventures included single track down hill mountain biking zip lining (also known as flying fox) and some other tit bits. their adventures took place mainly in Antigua. We were there the time that the sink holes opened up in guatemala. There is a more extensive article on his mini adventure on my blg the link of which can be found on my page and also an article was written about this adventure and published in "posh magazine" mexico.

On November 2, the "Day of the Dead" everybody goes to the cemetery to visit their departed relatives. The "skach Koyl" Race is not quite the quaint picturesque event represented to us by "National Geographic", but it is definitely worth a trip if you are interested. While most of the "todosanteros" as the locals are called, wear traditional costumes daily, during the festival everybody is wearing their Sunday Best and the competitors in their finery outdo each other. The night before the race "All Hollows Eve" Todo Santos is alive with Marimbas, parties and a lot of drinking. The following day the race begins. The race is a continuous point to point (about an 1/8 of a mile) and back again race lasting hours. Traditionally the race is a test of "bravery
