The Mediterranean Sea, as is Cyprus, is to the south; the Aegean Sea and Archipelago are to the west; and the Black Sea is to the north. Separating Anatolia and Trakya are the Sea of Marmara and the Bosporus, which are commonly reckoned to delineate the border between Asia and Europe, thereby making Turkey transcontinental.[2] Because of its strategic location astride two continents, Turkey's culture has a unique blend of Eastern and Western tradition. A powerful regional presence in the Eurasian landmass with strong cultural and economic influence in the area between the European Union in the west and Central Asia in the east, Russia in the north and the Middle East in the south, Turkey has come to acquire increasing strategic significance. Turkey, a developed country, is a democratic, secular, unitary, constitutional republic whose political system was established in 1923 under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, following the fall of the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of World War I. Blue Mosque, Istanbul (Turkey) - Travel Guide
Take a tour of Blue Mosque, Istanbul -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions series by GeoBeats. Hi, I am Naomi and I am very excited to show you the world's greatest attractions. Six thin minarets reaching for the heavens mark the Blue Mosque. The stunning landmark was built in the early 1600s. With its cascading domes and the namesake blue interior tiles, it is a truly unique structure. The religious and historical significance make it one of Turkey's greatest treasures. The Blue Mosque has awe-inspiring courtyards and several entrances. Inside, the high vaulted ceilings are adorned with a bright mosaic of tiles. Besides a place of beauty, the Blue Mosque remains a place of worship. It is perfectly located, commanding views of the city and Bosphorus River. Night lighting make the Blue Mosque a place of magic and wonder at all times. Thank you for watching our travel video series. See you next time.
